Archie's Story

Archie-then Gimli, prior to adoption

Archie(Gimli) came to Saving Grace as an owner surrender in July 2019. Read below to hear the amazing progress he has made! Archie has had an amazing journey. It is thanks to his dedicated adopters that he has come so far in life.

Archie was almost 3 years old when we adopted him. He was a wild card as we only heard about his bite history with kids. He didn’t seem to know how to walk on a leash and was super depressed when he first came home with us. His other family had to give him up due to having 3 kids and running a daycare. He ran away from savings grace in an attempt to find them 😔

We spent a lot of time with Archie one on one, building his trust. Giving him space when he needed & taking him out camping, walking on a leash & playing fetch (a fav game of his). At first we noticed he would lunge at kids if they came towards him too quick on a leash so we slowly would expose him more and more to situations with kids and show him we would advocate for him. He started to trust us more and would let kids come up and pet him while on a leash. By the time my niece and nephew were born, he was very comfortable around kids.

When I was pregnant with my first in 2023, we had a $12,000 1 week in intensive vet care hospital bill as Archie out of no where developed spontaneous pneumothorax. We were devastated that he might not get to meet his sister. After just over a week in the hospital, many surgeries and monitoring, he made it home and made a full recovery!!

He is best friends with my daughter, he gets excited when we go to wake her up in the morning. He waits by the door for her and is so patient with her cuddles and kisses. He is getting a little brother any-day now!
