Franklin's Rescue Story

This amazing dog was rescued by Saving Grace from the dumpster area behind a grocery store, where he was seen dragging around his back end, suffering from mange, lack of nutrition, and a fear of the world.

Franklin has bilateral limb deformity which means both of his femurs and tibias have developed with an extreme bow in them due to his patella or kneecap being displaced to the inside of his legs and scarred tightly into that position. It is possible that he was dumped, and based on fearful his behaviour, probably mistreated as well.

From the moment he moved into foster, he surprisingly seemed to feel most comfort with the children in the home, and quickly became very close friends with the other dogs too, who accepted him immediately and taught him “how to dog.”

Although he was visibly afraid, his sweet & calm demeanor began to shine through every day as he began to finally feel what it’s like to be safe.

Not only did his loving personality slowly begin to return- he totally exceeded the expectations of what his quality of life would be because of his medical condition. Initially, it was doubtful that he would ever walk unassisted, but his strength and perseverance proved otherwise. Although a little bent and unconventional- He soon mastered ”dog things” like the stairs, wrestling, Aqua-walks, zoomies... 5KM adventures in his wheels and even playing in the snow. (on skis)

And after all this hard work & progress, his foster family loved him so much couldn’t possibly give him up... He was already home.

Franklin is one tough guy... and living proof that no matter what kind of past a rescue dog has had, love and TLC can repair a broken spirit.
