Hanna's Story

Hanna at the shelter prior to adoption

Hanna came into our care in 2021. She arrived to us as a stray with puppies. She was a timid girl that needed some time to decompress and learn to trust the people caring for her. Once she warmed up she was the sweetest girl and so so loving with the kennel staff! She worked hard on her confidence, and we believed with a bit of structure she was going to make a family so incredibly happy!

Unfortunately there is a stigma around bully breeds, as well as black dogs which resulted in Hanna sitting in shelter for longer than any of us though she should! Hanna is a wonderful example of how wrong those perceptions can be!

But, her family would come for her! Read below to hear from her family about the wonderful life she leads now!

We adopted Hanna in Oct 2021. We saw her posted on facebook noting she was still available and the shelter was confused why no one was interested! She was extremely shy, quiet, reserved. She was healing from recently having puppies and being spayed (though still quite young). Once we brought her home she spent hours at the front door frozen. It was heartbreaking watching her. But we had patience and let her do her own thing until she was comfortable to hang out with us, which really only took a few days!

Hanna today is bubbly, cuddly, loving and so incredibly sweet. She is the most kind, gentle dog I have ever met. She loves all humans, especially kids and babies, loves cats and the most important activity is snuggling, and she is an aggressive snuggler! She is still very quiet, doesn’t bark, other than barking in her sleep! She is still quite nervous with dogs, but she has made friends with our neighbour's dog, a female Boxer. They are the best of friends!

Hanna's life is very full, she loves her family and picking up the kids from school so all the kids at the school can doggypile on her in the park! She loves her kitty sister! Hanna comes to work with me, a retail shop so she gets to meet lots of customers that of course adore her. She is incredibly loyal, doesn't need a leash, always right beside us (though we do use a leash when we leave our home). She is the perfect fit for our family and everyday with Hanna feels like a gift. I know people say dogs can feel gratitude, but our Hanna certainly does and she shows it daily. We always say- Hanna doesn't need a leash, she knows where she belongs!

She is loved, healthy, social and gives so much love back to everyone she meets.

Thank you for Hanna!
